ABOUT US

Located at OS grid NS 736 386 (55:37.470N 4:0.535W), the 30 acre Kype Reservoir was constructed in 1898 for Hamilton Town Council. The Reservoir was created by building an earth embankment dam and flooding the valley. It has a natural stock of native Brown Trout. Reaching the Reservoir involves a final journey of two and a half miles, over old farm road, winding through fields of sheep and cattle. Surrounded by mature conifer woodland, the Reservoir has been stocked with Rainbow Trout by the Kype Angling Club, who operate the current lease. At approximately 890 feet above sea level, the general area offers some stunning views of the Clyde Valley and surrounding lands.

Kype Angling Club was formed more than thirty years ago. Although once boasting a membership of nearly 200, the club is now much more compact and easier to organise with 50 members, (and a waiting list). Day tickets are available to non-members. Very occasionally is the water busy. Kype Reservoir is stocked four times a year with top quality, hard fighting Rainbow Trout in the 1.5 lb to 5 lb range, with the odd larger fish included to keep things interesting. Blue Trout and Tiger Trout are also included in some stock rotations. The Club has three competitions each year (one home, two away) for members.

Membership is available at the following rates: Full £120, Concession £100, Junior £60. Anyone wishing to sample the pleasures of Kype Reservoir can purchase a day ticket at £15 (three fish limit, NO catch and release). If the experience is enjoyable, and membership is available, then the cost of the day ticket can be deducted from the initial membership fee.

Additional information, application form, club rules etc. are available on other web pages. If you are interested come and fish for a day, then make up your mind. The Kype Angling Club would welcome your interest, and comments.

To all Brothers of the Angle;

Tight Lines and Screaming Reels.
